The Arlberg Ski Area
Limitless options for wintersports enthusiasts
It is here that many decades ago the modern alpine skiing technique was developed. Today the Arlberg is the largest ski resort in Austria where skiers and snowboarders can cruise the same slopes where early ski pioneers made history. A holiday at the Arlberg is like a journey back in time!
Then and Now
The birthplace of skiing
Throughout its long and proud history, the Arlberg region has set new standards in wintersports and tourism. It was here that in 1937 the first cable car in Austria was opened, followed years later by the first heated ski lifts and, finally, the creation of an entire cable car and lift network connecting many of the villages in the area.
Now, in the winter season 2016/2017, wintersports enthusiasts at the Arlberg can look forward to yet another groundbreaking innovation. The Flexenbahn is a new cable car connecting Zürs and Stuben/Rauz. This final piece in the puzzle makes the Arlberg region the largest ski area in Austria and is yet another good reason to spend your next winter holiday at the Hotel Sonnblick in Lech.
Exclusive & Urban
Pistes and powder
Snowsure conditions, a wide range of pistes and top facilities are three of the main features that make Lech am Arlberg a world-class destination for skiers and snowboarders.
A total of 97 state-of-the-art cable cars and lifts give wintersports enthusiasts direct access to this region known as the birthplace of alpine skiing. After taking in the magnificent views from the top of the mountain, it is time to head out and explore the 350 kilometres of pistes. With such diverse selection of slopes on offer, it is little wonder that the Arlberg region is just as popular with families as it is with expert skiers. In fact, experienced skiers will find 200 kilometres of powder skiing. Near the pistes there are many cosy wooden huts serving traditional food and drinks.
The Berghotel Sonnblick in Lech is the ideal starting point for exploring this fabulous mountain region.
